IN-PERSON | Advanced SANE Course: SANEs and Community-Based Advocates - Confidentiality, Privacy, and Working Together on Forensic Exams

AUDIENCE:

This training is intended for Healthcare Professionals (APRN, RN, LPN), SANEs, Physicians, Physician Assistants, Law Enforcement, Prosecutors, Victim Advocates, Mental Health Professionals, and other professionals who work with victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

 

KCSDV is approved as a provider of continuing nursing education by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. This course offering has been approved for contact hours applicable for APRN, RN, or LPN re-licensure. Kansas State Board of Nursing Provider Number: LT0291-0914.

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Join KCSDV and The Confidentiality Institute in partnership with GBV Consulting for an interactive training that will support Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) and Community-Based Advocates (CBAs) in understanding and implementing trauma-informed approaches to manage survivor information, in the context of forensic examinations. This training will include an overview and application of SANE and CBA confidentiality and privacy rules in the context of forensic work.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe how privacy and confidentiality support trauma-informed practices and survivor autonomy.
  2. Compare and contrast VAWA confidentiality for community-based advocates and medical privacy and confidentiality for Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs).
  3. Use effective techniques for communication with survivors and each other about how survivor information gets managed.
