The Role of Pharmacists in Community Oncology: A CPAN Advocacy Chat

Pharmacists do much more than just dispense medication. Each day, they work directly with the entire healthcare team from diagnosis to survivorship to source the most effective treatments and provide support, educate patients, and navigate the complexities of pharmacy benefit managers, payer mandates, insurer policies, and prior authorization to ensure cancer patients have access to the right medication in a safe and timely manner throughout their cancer care journey. Host Rose Gerber, MS, was joined by Judy Alberto, MHA, RPh, BCOP, and Lisa Sowinski-Raff, PharmD, MSPharm, BCPS, BCOP, to discuss a pharmacist's day-to-day in a community oncology cancer practice. Attendees learned how pharmacists ensure patients receive the most effective treatment with minimal side effects and advocate for patients by working to lower prescription costs. This event was be part of our virtual CPAN Advocacy Chats series - short, monthly educational webinars on key cancer issues and the policies that impact them.
