Get Your Child Excited About History
You can make remembering history more fun for your child. Collect some of the historical names, dates and events your child is studying this year and try these ideas:
- Play History Bingo. Make bingo cards with important dates on them. While playing, call out the name of a corresponding person or event. Your child must put a marker on the appropriate date.
- Play History Concentration. Prepare two cards for each person from history: one with the person's name; one with the thing the person is known for—such as an event, invention, etc. Mix the cards up and lay them face down. Take turns turning over pairs of cards to see who can find more matches.
- Put on history plays. Help your child write a script for a play about a specific historic event. Invite friends and family members to participate.
- Try living history. With your child, prepare a meal using recipes from a historical period. You can even wear homemade period costumes when you serve the dinner.
