MIPI A-PHY v2.0 The MIPI Alliance, an international organization that develops interface specifications for mobile and mobile-influenced industries,  announced the release of MIPI A-PHY v2.0, the next version of the automotive high-speed asymmetric serializer-deserializer (SerDes) physical-layer interface. Version 2.0 doubles the maximum available downlink data rate from 16 Gigabits per second (Gbps) to 32 Gbps on a single channel, as well as adds an additional uplink gear with an eight-fold speed boost to support up to 1.6 Gbps. New #Chinese car company Leapmotor has launched the Australian website of its soon to be released C10 #electricSUV, expected to be one of the most affordable #EVs on the local market. Leapmotor’s push into the international market is being made possible through a joint venture with global automotive giant #Stellantis, and last month the first Australian sighting of Leapmotor’s C10 electric SUV  was recorded in #Melbourne. In #China, the pricing of the Leapmotor C10 SUV starts at under $A27,000, making it one of the most affordable vehicles in its class given its 4,739 mm length. It is sure to generate interest when it is formally unveiled, and pricing released in #Australia later this year. News of the newly unveiled website was first shared by Will K on Electric Vehicles for Australia #Facebook group after receiving its initial Australian Design Rules (#ADR) approval. According to the company’s website, the Leapmotor C10 variants available to Australian drivers will include: Style Design Both variants will be powered by a 160 kW motor and come equipped with a 69.9 kWh battery which can deliver up to 420 km of #WLTP range. This pack will be able to be charged from 30-80% in 30 minutes with official charging speeds not shared on the website. On the inside, both variants will also include a large 14.6-inch infotainment screen along with a 10.25-inch driver instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. There is also #4G connectivity and #Wifi on offer along with over-the-air (#OTA) updates helping maintain a good ownership experience with regular updates. Speaking of connectivity, the car has built-in #Bluetooth and #NFC key capabilities for keyless entry across both variants. Styling-wise, the rear gives the SUV a very #Porsche Cayenne-like look which is very modern when combined with its flush door handles. From the side, the car has multiple repeater cameras which like the #Tesla models will allow the car to see around it for assisted driving and doubles as a driver safety feature. Leapmotor International’s local launch is expected to be in Q4 2024 with more details of its Australian pricing, full specs and launch dates to be released in the coming months. The upcoming C10 model will be Leapmotor’s first to enter Australia, with #Europe also receiving the T03 hatchback. No confirmation of that model has been noted for our local market so we will keep an eye out for any developments in the electric hatchback space from the brand. The addition of the Leapmotor C10 to the local electric SUV models is good news for drivers looking at making the switch to electric in the coming months.

German automaker #Volkswagen has launched the latest edition of the ID.3 electric SUV – due to come to #Australia later this year or early next year – with upgraded power, charging capacity, and new software and infotainment system. The latest upgrades to the ID.3 include more power for the ID.3 Pro S, which now boasts 170kW as standard for new cars, while customers in other markets can decide after purchase whether they want to increase the basic output from 150kW to 170kW via function-on-demand – a new option to Volkwagen. With the increase in power comes an improvement to the acceleration of the ID.3 Pro S, now able to reach 0-100km/h in 7.1 seconds with a range of up to 559km (#WLTP). The ID.3 Pro S also now offers maximum charging output of up to 175kW, enabling a reduced charging time, particularly in winter. “The ID.3 Pro S represents the consistent further development of our product portfolio based on the needs of our customers,” said Imelda Labbé, member of the Volkswagen brand board of management responsible for sales, marketing, and after sales. “For example, the model now has an improved e-route planner and the option of preconditioning the battery. These are functions that have already been very well received by drivers of the other ID. models.” Volkswagen was particularly focused on the announcement of its new infotainment system which features a larger touchscreen and a new and intuitive menu structure. Available across the ID.3 product line, interior system upgrades also include an enhanced multifunction steering wheel which now allows for simplified and more intuitive operation. A range of systems are available across the ID.3 product line as options including a new Travel Assist with swam data utilisation enabling assisted longitudinal and lateral guidance over the entire speed range as well as assisted lane changing on motorways. An exit warning system is introduced for the firm time to the ID.3 product line as an extension of the Side Assist lane change system, and which can prevent one of the doors from being opened if a vehicle approaches from behind, offering an acoustic and visual warming. A new 480W, 12-channel sound system is included for the ID.3 Pro S from audio specialist Harman Kardon, while a new wellness app for increasing wellbeing while driving and breaks is included in the Pro S.
