Managing product quality giveaway in refinery operations is fundamental to successful refinery operations and optimization. At our MUG 2024 Users Conference next month, Vince DiVita and Tim Ritts of 1898 & Co. will discusses financial and economic gains that can be realized through technical analysis and operational improvements.  The LP model can be a significant tool to analyze these variables to minimize giveaway and provide significant returns. Always a key performance indicator, managing giveaway is generally a worthy opportunity to devote resources.  Refineries often get complacent in giveaway management, or simply lack resources to keep the program on track.  Octane and RVP giveaway generally considered the highest potential targets, but other specifications can have significant value, including gasoline volatility and cold flow distillate blending.  As the industry often does, we turn to LP models to quantify these opportunities, but quantifying giveaway and return on investment can be challenging.  Reliable valuation methods need to be in place when allocating and optimizing capital spending – this ensures we are appropriating resources efficiently.  We will discuss some LP-based processes as well as non-LP methods to analyze giveaway. Identifying technical factors associated with giveaway requires analysis in blending and refinery operations.  We do this to find no/low and high capex opportunities with the recognition that all refineries are unique and there is no singular solution. The Texas oil and natural gas industry continues to set new benchmarks for success, recently achieving an all-time high of $27.3 billion paid in state and local taxes and state royalties in fiscal year 2024. The North Refineries Company (NRC) has announced a 20,000-barrel-per-day (bpd) increase in production capacity at the Al-Siniya refinery, raising its output to 50,000 bpd. Director General Adnan Mohammed Hamoud highlighted that the project was completed within six months, with the operation of two new production units, each adding 10,000 bpd. The refinery's capacity rose from 30,000 bpd to 50,000 bpd, ensuring high-quality output to meet national demand and promote self-sufficiency. Hamoud noted that this success reflects ongoing national efforts in reconstruction and development, including previous accomplishments such as the rehabilitation of the North Refinery, Salahuddin 1 and 2 refineries, and other production units. 🚨 Important Update: GPA Midstream & Industry Partners Respond to PHMSA's Proposed Regulations 🚨   GPA Midstream was joined by 10 leading organizations in the gas gathering industry to formally address significant concerns to the U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). Our joint comments with groups like the American Petroleum Institute and others from key states highlight critical issues with the proposed leak detection rules, which do not comply with statutory requirements.   The discussions held during recent GPAC meetings have brought to light the pressing need for major revisions to the proposed regulations to ensure they are reasonable and backed by accurate risk assessments that meet criteria established by the U.S. Congress.   For a deeper look at our concerns and the potential impact on the industry, visit our website. Phillips 66 (PSX.N), beat quarterly profit estimates as strength in its chemicals and midstream segments helped the refiner more than offset a slump in refining margins from lackluster fuel demand. The company, which owns nearly 72,000 miles of U.S. pipeline systems, has moved more fuel this year than before as it expands its natural gas liquids market share.
