When Should You Contact the Teacher?

You and the teacher are a team, working for your child’s benefit. Two-way communication between you helps make that happen.

Get in touch with the teacher if:

• You see a dramatic change in your child's behavior. A happy child becomes withdrawn. A friendly child suddenly wants to be alone.
• Your child's grades drop. This could be in one subject or across the board.
• You suspect that your child may be telling you things about school that aren't the truth. For example, if you keep hearing that there's no work to do at home but the teacher has told you there will always be a math assignment.
• There's been a change in your family. A serious illness, a death, a new marriage, a divorce or a new baby can all affect your child's performance at school.
