  • #DYK NGA has our own team of weather forecasters. 📡 📡 The NGA GEOINT Meteorological and Oceanographic Operations team – or METOC – is essential to NGA and our partners’ missions. Much like your local tv meteorologist, our METOC team analyzes and translates raw weather data and maps into plain language their audience can understand and use. Their work is critical during hurricane season, warning NGA personnel at our partner locations of incoming weather and tracking post-storm conditions. 🌩️ 📷 Airman Connor McDonald, 5th Operations Support Squadron weather forecaster, monitors the weather conditions via satellite at Minot Air Force Base, N.D.

  • In response to the executive order invoking the National Emergencies Act for the crisis at the U.S. southern border, NGA pivoted to ensure rapid delivery of relevant geospatial intelligence information. NGA, alongside USNORTHCOM, is using GEOINT AI to create efficiencies in the exchange of information between U.S. Department of Homeland Security and NORAD & US Northern Command. • NGA 🤝 U.S. Indo-Pacific Command Team members at NGA INDOPACOM recently completed exercises Freedom Shield 2025, a combined readiness exercise between the United States and the Republic of Korea. This year’s exercise featured multi-domain operations across land, sea, air, cyber, and space, reinforcing the alliance’s ability to respond to evolving threats and security challenges. The exercise incorporated lessons learned from recent conflicts, realistic combat scenarios, and adversarial tactics, ensuring that U.S. forces remain fully prepared. 💪 NGA teamed up with the Joint Intelligence Fusion Cell, participating in battle rhythm events, intelligence working groups and Defense Intelligence Enterprise syncs. • #ICYMI, NGA was hard at work this hurricane season, rapidly deploying to provide #GEOINT to support response efforts in the wake of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. 🌀🗺️ Initially, NGA deployed to Western North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Helene, enabling tactical mapping and search functions to enhance humanitarian and rescue and recovery missions with critical, timely support. While responding to Helene, NGA deployers were made aware of a second hurricane would soon make landfall, Hurricane Milton. To support both hurricane responses, additional NGA deployers were sent to Florida, where they provided critical information, like detailed maps, gridded reference graphics and imagery products that included 360-degree, ground-based imagery of some of the hardest hit areas to enhance recovery efforts. • 9 years ago, NGA announced our intention to remain in St. Louis and to build a new facility for our workforce there. 🏗️ We’ve made a lot of progress since then building our state-of-the-art facilities nestled in the heart of downtown St. Louis and the thriving geospatial community in the city. ➡️ NGA predecessor agencies have called the city home since 1943. NGA is proud to carry on the legacy of protecting our national security from St. Louis and can’t wait to get to our new building, opening later this year. #NGAinSTL

  • We’ve all heard about or seen the movie inspired by the sinking of the Titanic, but did you know this world event had a lasting impact on NGA’s mission today? 🚢 #OTD in 1912, the construction of the Titanic was completed, and the ship would soon set off on voyage across the Atlantic. The tragedy of the Titanic prompted the creation of the International Ice Patrol, intended to monitor ice conditions along major ocean routes between Europe and America. Since then, this safety of navigation mission has been carried out by NGA and our predecessor agencies. Learn more here 📰➡️ https://bit.ly/42qL30k

  • How it started ➡️ How it’s going More than 100 years ago, Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa crossed our border with more than 500 men and raided Columbus, New Mexico, killing 17 Americans. Soon after, the US Army launched its first-ever aerial search. ✈️📷 Photographed here are uniformed and civilian members of the 1st Aero Squadron who would go on to fly 346 hours on 540 flights covering more than 19,300 miles in the search for Pancho. Swipe ➡️ to see the squad in its modern form as the 1st Recon Squadron. The search for Pancho marks the first time our military used aerial imagery captured from a plane for intelligence purposes, a mission that NGA and our partners carry on today.
