The Position

East Bay Municipal Utility District’s (EBMUD’s) Operations and Maintenance Department is seeking a motivated, experienced, and team-oriented Associate Engineer to coordinate, analyze, and manage projects related to the maintenance and construction of EBMUD’s distribution system and facilities, including water loss control initiatives, trench soils management, advanced metering infrastructure, and other projects as assigned. The Associate Engineer will develop and coordinate pilot studies and implement programs based on these studies, perform technical and economic analyses, manage maintenance and construction projects, and will effectively coordinate and communicate with stakeholders. Reporting to a Senior Engineer, Associate Engineer is the registered professional engineer level position on the EBMUD engineering career ladder.

The most competitive candidates will have excellent interpersonal, written communication, project management, and technical skills; experience in design and construction management of water infrastructure projects; and strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Flexible/hybrid work from home schedule may be available for some positions in this job classification.

The salary range for Associate Civil Engineer and Associate Mechanical Engineer is $11,976 per month increasing to $12,575, $13,204, $13,864, and $14,557 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

The salary range for Associate Electrical Engineer positions is $12,275 per month increasing to $12,889, $13,533, $14,210, and $14,920 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

Requirements

1. A bachelor’s degree in an ABET-accredited civil, environmental, mechanical, electrical, or closely related engineering curriculum OR a California EIT certificate;

2. Four years of professional civil, environmental, mechanical, electrical, or closely related engineering experience (subsequent to obtaining the degree), which is equivalent to two years of experience at EBMUD’s Assistant Engineer level; AND

3. California registration as a Professional Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineer.

The Selection Process

1. Submit a completed EBMUD application and the required supplemental question responses online at www.ebmud.com by 4:30 p.m., Friday, April 12, 2024. Only application materials submitted online during the filing period will be accepted.

2. Candidates must achieve a passing score on each test part in order to advance to the next step in the selection process.

3. All qualified applications and supplemental responses will be competitively evaluated, with those candidates receiving a passing score to be invited to a panel interview tentatively scheduled for April 2024.

4. Successful candidates will be placed on the hiring list, based on rank, for further consideration to fill the current regular vacancy, as well as others occurring over the next 12 to 24 months.

5. The probation period for this position is 12 months. For those holding civil service status the probation period is 6 months.

6. All employment offers are conditional, pending the results of a Live Scan background screening. All selected finalists must participate in the Live Scan background screening process to remain in consideration for EBMUD employment.
