Richard Schmidt is passing the title of president of Milwaukee contractor CG Schmidt to his brother, Eric, but will remain involved in the company as its CEO and chairman.

Eric Schmidt, currently serving as senior vice president, takes the new title Jan. 1 and will lead business operations and corporate development. CG Schmidt, at 101 years old, has been under the family’s leadership for four generations.

“Eric is a strong leader, and I’m confident he will continue to fuel our growth in the foreseeable future,” Rick Schmidt is quoted in a Wednesday press release on the succession plan. “He is the right choice as President for the next phase of this company’s history.”

Eric Schmidt has worked for the company more than 30 years, and was involved in establishing its regional office in Madison. He currently works in its Milwaukee headquarters.

“I will ensure this company continues to change the physical landscape of cities everywhere and of equal importance, creates opportunities for cultural, educational, workforce and economic development for the businesses and communities we serve,” he said.

CG Schmidt is one of the region’s largest prime commercial building contractors. Its current projects include the restoration of the Milwaukee Athletic Club’s historic downtown building, transformation of former Milwaukee Journal Sentinel offices on West State Street into new apartments and construction of two new office buildings for Irgens at The Corridor in Brookfield.
