Event History
In 2023, a group of eight agencies and non-profit organizations (Amerigroup, Catholic Charities, First Care, Hub City Outreach Center, Lubbock Public Library, MCH Family Outreach, South Plains Community Action Association, and St. Francis Ministries) had a vision to combine efforts to create one large back-to-school event for the Lubbock community. After months of planning, this resulted in the Inaugural City-Wide Back-2-School Bash that took place at Mahon Library. This event exceeded all expectations with over 2,000 stuffed backpacks handed out to children and a record number of people coming through the library doors. Thanks to the hard work of the original team for creating such a successful event, it became apparent that the idea for a collaborative, city-wide event needed to grow in both venue and scope. Dozens of other agencies were invited to participate in the planning process and the Lubbock Public Libraries stepped in on behalf of the City of Lubbock to manage and host the event at the Civic Center.
