Boost Your Child's Vocabulary with Lunch Notes

Tucking notes in with your child’s lunch is a fun way to increase your elementary schooler’s vocabulary while encouraging happy thoughts.

As often as you can, write a “lunch note” for your child. It should consist mostly of simple words that your child already knows. But you can also add a few "challenge" words that your student will have to decode to read the whole note.

For example, here's a note you might write to a first grader:

Dear Andrea,

I am thinking about you today—your bright eyes and your cheerful smile. I'm so proud of your great outlook.

Love, Mom

Your child will love the notes. In fact, your student might even save them or write back to you. As your child grows older, use more challenging words.
