Visibility of Architectural surface patterns when view is set to Mechanical (or any other MEP discipline)

When a Section/Elevation view is set to any of the MEP disciplines, the Arch/Struc surface patterns show thru the MEP elements and equipment. This makes them look transparent and is extremely undesirable. It would be nice if the surface patterns in the link respected the solid elements in the MEP Sections/Elevations.  To get around this MEP often finds themselves setting the View to Coordination instead of the discipline it should be. Then, in order to Not see the pattern behind there elements, View Templates are made to make the view look like it should (half toning, line weights, etc...).  

 

The example below is a section set to Mechanical discipline. All the yellow highlighted fill patterns should be being hidden by the elements live in the model.
